What is Dialysis?
Dialysis is a way of cleaning your blood when your kidney can no longer do the job. It gets rid of your body's wastes, extra salt and water, and helps control your blood pressure.
What is Hemodialysis?
Hemodialysis means "cleaning the blood" and that is exactly what this treatment does. Hemodialysis is a procedure in which a machine filters harmful waste and excess salt and fluid from your blood.
Who Needs Hemodialysis?
If your kidneys are failing, you may need dialysis to help control your blood pressure and maintain the proper balance of fluid and various chemicals - such as potassium and sodium - in your body.
Sometimes kidney failure is caused by specific kidney disease. In other cases, it's a complication of another condition such as: diabetes, polycystic kidney disease, inflammation of blood vessels (Vasculitis), high blood pressure (hypertension), or kidney inflammation (glomuerulonephritis).
